Keith Dane is the Director of Equine Protection for The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS). He has an extensive background in equine protection. Mr. Dane served as Executive Director of Friends of Sound Horses (FOSH), an organization established to eliminate cruelties in the Tennessee Walking Horse industry. He is FOSH's USDA liaison for its certified inspection program under the Horse Protection Act. He worked with many animal protection groups to pass the American Horse Slaughter Protection Act. Dane has been involved with horses for more than 35 years, serving as president of state and national equine organizations, and is a licensed horse show judge for many gaited breed organizations. He was a co-founder of one of the first show circuits for the sound gaited horse community, created as an alternative to the "Big Lick" shows that can involve cruelty in training. Previously Dane worked for Kaiser Permanente as a health care information systems project manager, and as a private entrepreneur.

April Zendarski is a 16-year-old home-schooled student, focusing her academic career in horsemanship. She is enrolled in Breyer State University's Bachelor of Science program in equine studies and is a Parelli Natural Horsemanship student. Her family owns 3 horses. As a Girl Scout for 11 years she will be receiving, along with her troop members, the Girl Scout Gold Award--the highest nationally recognized award a Girl Scout can earn. Her troop's project---- See it Through My Eyes, is about the abuses of soring.
